games he has played in.
SUDERMAN NETS GAME-WINNER... Junior Marc Suderman (Regina, Saskatchewan)
tallied the game-winning goal in the Friars' 4-3 double-overtime victory
over Boston University on March 11. Suderman's goal ended the longest game
in the history of HOCKEY EAST. On March 9, Suderman dished out three
assists in PC's 6-3 win over Boston University. This season, Suderman has
tallied seven goals and 17 assists in 37 games.
SCAHEFER POSTS TWO WINS... Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass,
Saskatchewan) posted a 2-0-0 record with a 2.30 goals against average and
a .888 save percentage in the Friars' two wins over BU on March 9 (6-3) and
in double overtime on March 11 (4-3). On March 9, Schaefer stopped 17
shots earning his 13th win of the season. On March 11, Schaefer stopped 27
shots in PC's 4-3 double-overtime win, which was the longest game in the
history of HOCKEY EAST.
KELLY RECORDS MULTIPLE-POINTS...Regan Kelly (Imperial, Saskatchewan)
notched four assists in the Friars' three games versus Boston
University. On March 11, Kelly dished out three assists in PC's 4-3 double
overtime victory, including an assist on the game-winning goal. On March
9, Kelly assisted on Devin Rask's 21st goal of the season. This season,
Kelly has recorded four goals and 20 assists in 33 games.
FRIARS CAPTURE QUARTERFINAL SERIES, 2-1... The Friars took a 1-0 lead the
in the best-of-three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series with a 6-3 victory
over Boston University on March 9, 2001. PC had 13 players record at least
one-point in the victory. Devin Rask (Parkside, Saskatchewan) and J.J.
Picinic (Fort Lee, N.J.) each tallied two goals to pace the Friars'
offense. Marc Suderman Regina, Saskatchewan) recorded three assists in the
contest. The Friars jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and improved
their record to 17-0-4 when they tally three or more goals in a
game. Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) stopped 17 shots for the
Friars. On March 10, the Boston University Terriers evened the
best-of-three Quarterfinal series with a 2-1 victory. Mike Pandolfo and
Freddy Meyer tallied one goal each for BU. John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass).
notched his first collegiate goal for the Friars. Boyd Ballard (Weyburn,
Saskatchewan) stopped 21 shots in the loss. On March 11, the Friars
defeated the Terriers, 4-3, in double overtime which was the longest game
in the history of HOCKEY EAST. Marc Suderman (Regina, Saskatchewan)
deflected a Regan Kelly (Imperial, Saskatchewan) shot past BU netminder
Sean Fields at the 96:26 mark of the game. Cole Gendreau (Bismrack, N.D.),
Cody Loughlean (Innisfail, Alb.) and Jay Leach (Altamont, N.Y.) each
tallied one goal for PC. Kelly dished out three assists for PC. Schaefer
stopped 27 shots in the victory. The win advances the Friars to the HOCKEY
EAST Semifinals versus Maine on March 16 at the FleetCenter.
LONGEST GAME IN THE HISTORY OF HOCKEY EAST...The Friars' 4-3 double
overtime win over BU on March 11 was the longest game in the history of
HOCKEY EAST. The contest lasted 96:26 surpassing the previos record of
90:28 established by NewHampshire and Boston College on March 12,
1994. The game ranks eighth all-time in Division I history just behind
Bolwing Green and Minnesota-Dultuh's 97:11 game on Mrach 24, 1984 in the
NCAA Champioship.
FRIARS CAPTURE THEIR 20th WIN...PC's 6-3 win over Boston University on
March 9 was their 20th win of the season. It marks the first 20-win season
for the Friars since the 1998-99 season when the squad posted a 20-17-1
record. It marks the 12th time in the 50-year history of Friar hockey that
the team has recorded 20 or more wins. It is also the first time ever the
Friar basketball team and hockey team have won 20 games in the same season.
RASK LEADS THE OFFENSE... Sophomore Devin Rask (Parkside, Saskatchewan)
tallied his team-leading 50th point (22 goals, 28 assists) in the Friars'
4-3 double overtime win over Boston University on March 11. The centerman
recorded one assist in the victory. On March 9, Rask tallied two goals in
the Friars' 6-3 win versus BU at Schneider Arena. This season, the Friars
are 19-5-2 when Rask tallies at least one point and are 2-5-3 in the games
he has been held pointless. Rask also leads the team with a .244 shot
percentage.
Next FOR the FRIARS... The Friars will battle Maine on March 16 at 8:00
p.m. at the Fleet Center in the HOCKEY EAST Semifinals.
PC IN THE HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT....PC holds an all-time mark of 23-23-1 in
HOCKEY EAST Tournament games. PC has won two HOCKEY EAST titles (1995 and
1996). Last season, PC was defeated by the University of Maine, 2-0, in
the best-of-three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series. PC's last appearance at
the FleetCenter was during the 1998-99 season when the team was defeated by
New Hampshire, 6-2, at the FleetCenter in the Semifinals. Last night, the
Friars defeated Boston University, 4-3 in double overtime.
PC VS. MAINE IN THE HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT...The Friars have posted a 4-5
mark all-time against Maine in HOCKEY EAST Tournament action, including a
1-2 record in the HOCKEY EAST Semifinals. In 1995, The Friars defeated the
Black Bears, 7-3, in the HOCKEY EAST Semifinals. In 1988, PC was swept by
the Black Bears (6-5, 11-2) in a two-game semifinals series.
PC AT THE FLEET CENTER...Providence holds a 2-1mark all-time in the HOCKEY
EAST playoffs at the FleetCenter. In 1996, the Friars defeated Boston
University, 7-4, in the semifinals and Maine, 3-2, in the HOCKEY EAST
Championship capturing their second HOCKEY EAST title. In 1999, the Friars
returned to the FleetCenter and were defeated by New Hampshire, 6-2, in the
semifinals.
THE PROVIDENCE/MAINE SERIES... Friday's game will be the 75th meeting
between the two schools. Maine leads the all-time series 44-28-2. The two
teams first met on January 5, 1980 with Providence defeating Maine, 4-3, at
Alfond Arena. PC's last win over Maine was a 5-3 victory on November 3,
2000 at Schneider Arena. The Friars' last loss to Maine was a 5-2 defeat
on March 3, 2001 at Alfond Arena.
THIS SEASON VERSUS MAINE... On November 3, the Friars defeated the
University of Maine, 5-3, at Schneider Arena. It marked the first time
that PC has defeated the Black Bears since November 6, 1997. Nolan Schaefer
recorded 39 saves for his second win of the season and his first ever over
Maine. Doug Wright and Adam Lee tallied a goal each for the Friars while
Devin Rask tallied hat trick. On March 2, the Friars were defeated by
Maine, 3-2, at Alfond Arena. Devin Rask tallied two goals for PC. Nolan
Schaefer stopped 30 shots in the loss. On March 3, the Friars were
defeated, 5-2 by the Black Bears. Junior Marc Suderman gave the Friars a
1-0 first period lead but Maine responded by scoring three second-period
goals. Peter Fregoe added a goal for the Friars. Boyd Ballard recorded
36 saves in the loss.
