In today's T-U Bob Croce has written a wonderful article about the tragic past
of Hobey Baker candidate Sean McCann from Harvard. At the age of 5 McCann lost
his mother, four sisters and a brother in a fire at their home in North York,
Ontario. His father died just over a year later from heart failure. From then
on McCann was raised by his Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Bill Markle. The couple,
who had been married only a year, had twin sons from Bill's previous marriage.
Their townhouse was suddenly filled with eight children in the summer of 1978.

The article continues on describing the sacrifices the Markles made for their
kids, and the effect they had on young Sean. Not only did McCann excel in the
ice rink, he also excelled academically. The Markles continue to provide
support for McCann, attending almost every game in which Sean plays. Bill, an
attorney, flies in from Ontario for every Harvard home game.

Quite an amazing story--certainly very impressive Hobey credentials. I have
copies of the article for whoever wants it.
