Bemidji State played in the D-III NCHA when they were D-II. They were not
eligible for the conference tournament at that time since it was felt that
if BSU won the Conference Tournament, the D-III NCAA Autobid would be
vacated. Bemidji also had to play without offering scholarships if they
wished to remain in the NCHA, which they did so they could fill out their
schedule.
BSU record in the 1990s:
1990-91 (D-III) 21-6-3, 17-4-3 NCHA, Regular Season Champ, lost in the
conference tournament and did not make the NCAAs
1991-92 (D-III) 16-9-5, 9-8-3 NCHA
1992-93 (BSU went D-II in all sports) 24-7-0, 14-6-0 NCHA, NCAA D-II
Champion.
1993-94 (D-II) 21-9-3, 12-6-2 NCHA, NCAA D-II Champion
1994-95 (D-II) 24-7-2, 16-3-1 NCHA Regular Season Champion, NCAA D-II
Champion
1995-96 (D-II) 16-9-4, 13-5-2 NCHA, NCAA D-II Runner Up
1996-97 (D-II) 25-7-2, 14-5-1 NCHA, NCAA D-II Champion
1997-98 (D-II) 22-10-2, 14-6-0 NCHA, NCAA D-II Runner Up
1998-99 BSU started their D-I transition, but still played in the NCHA to
fill out their schedule: 17-13-0 10-6-0 NCHA
1999-2000, BSU joined the CHA with Army, Air Force, Alabama-Huntsville,
Niagara and Findlay. Wayne State was a provisional member the first year.
