UMASS DARTMOUTH BLANKS UMASS BOSTON, 3-0

BOSTON, MA– Junior forward Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) scored a second period and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team made it stand up, blanking host UMass Boston, 3-0, in a non-conference hockey game at the Clark Athletic Center Tuesday evening.

Grant took passes from senior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and junior defenseman Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) and beat Beacon goaltender Ryan Donovan to make it 1-0 at the 14:16 mark of the second period.

UMass Boston pulled Donovan with 1:03 remaining, but senior defenseman Paul Carr (Springfield, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS) scored shorthanded into an empty net at 19:13 with the Corsairs down a man after receiving a penalty for too many men on the ice. The Beacons removed Donovan once more, but Lindner scored another empty net goal at 19:48 to complete the scoring.

Sophomore goaltender Jeff Green (Medford, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) made 24 saves to record his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his UMass Dartmouth career. Donovan made 37 saves as the Corsairs out shot the Beacons, 40-24.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 14-1-1 with the victory, while UMass Boston fell to 4-10-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Southern New Hampshire in an ECAC Northeast match up Saturday evening.
