Or won could just go on the premise there is a vast conspiracy against
Jordan Parise or Bobby Goepfert for that matter.
I am saying this tongue in check.

You need to keep in mind that the Hobey Baker is based on the entire
season, not just the players conference schedule, and also includes other
non-game day related activities. Hobey Baker criteria:
1. Candidates must exhibit strength of character both on and off the ice.
2. Candidates must contribute to the integrity of the team and display
outstanding skills in all phases of the game.
3. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and
sportmanship.
4. Candidates must comply with all NCAA rules: be full time students in an
accredited NCAA or NAIA college or university; and complete 50% or more of
the season.

Also of note, every head hockey coach at an accredited Division I NCAA
school receives one ballot. Coaches are asked to pick the top three players
in their league and the top three players in the nation.

Conference statistics: The Wisconsin strong defense makes Elliott that
much better. One could argue that looking at the difference between the
number of saves that Elliott had to face vs the number that Goepfert had to
face (keeping in mind the difference in minutes played) could lead one to
vote for Goepfert (or Parise) in lieu of Elliott. Also, who knows how
Elliott's injury played out in the voting of the Hobey Baker or the WCHA
awards?

Goals Against Average: Minutes GA GAA
  1 Brian Elliott Wisconsin JR 2008:19 52 1.55
  2 Jordan Parise North Dakota JR 1959:23 68 2.08
3 Bobby Goepfert St. Cloud State JR 2264:29 83 2.20

Save Percentage: Saves GA Pct
  1 Brian Elliott Wisconsin JR 783 52 .938
  2 Jordan Parise North Dakota JR 943 68 .933
3 Bobby Goepfert St. Cloud State JR 1010 83 .924

I'm sure the voting was close. Many players are worthy of awards but few
can receive them.
