For those of you afraid of flames, consider this. A few years ago I posted
a message that prompted a negative response from someone whom I had never
heard before: Nathan Hampton. He found my remarks to be totally infantile
and out-of-bounds and called me an idiot, however he did offer me an
opportunity to defend myself. A noble gesture, for which I commended him at
the time. I did defend my position, and he respected me for it (at least I
think he did). Of course he still disagreed with my opinion. Regardless,
it was because of that exchange that Nathan and I are friends today. Hi
Nathan!

What sets this list apart from the USCHO message board is the fact that it
is moderated. The quality of postings and the level of maturity exhibited
by members here makes this arena far preferable to the other. An
unmoderated USCHO board (they say it is moderated, but I don't buy it) leads
to plain malarkey. Does anyone think when someone flames on the USCHO board
that he is displaying the spirit of fair play that Nathan did with me? I
mean come on, how often does one have to read, "Your school sucks," before
you get the feeling that the message board is not a place where you want to
be. OTOH, the misspelling of the word dearth bothers me (sorry Tom).

Let's face it. When the list first came into being it was on the cutting
edge of technology. Guess what -- listserves aren't cutting edge anymore
(even though I subscribe to six others). People change as well. The ones
who contributed in a big way in the past now have other fish to fry. And
because the web is more prevalent, new blood isn't coming in. They probably
don't even know about us, let alone how to find us. Until they do, the most
any of us can expect with any regularity is Bob Rothwell's press releases.

And before anyone flames me about USCHO, bear in mind that I am one of their
best salespeople. I have recommended it to many people, who now swear by it
themselves. It is my favorite website, right after psychoexgirlfriend.com
