Actually, Maruk played two seasons at UAA, and did play for Notre Dame lat
year (36 games per USCHO, 37 per HockeyDB and the Notre Dame web site).
This will be his fourth year of eligibility. Assuming Tharp starts at Miami
as a junior, he would get four years of D1 eligibility as he played for
Minnesota for two seasons. I do believe that the player must be enrolled in
school during the "off year" as noted, but right now, transferring "through"
junior hockey is not costing players a season.

Maruk did not play last year at Notre Dame (while attending the school) and
is now a senior. Tharp is not on Miami's roster this year as he will have to
sit out and will lose a year of eligibility (making him a junior).

Based on current USHL information, it appears that the season of juniors is
sufficient to satisfy the one-year of sitting out , even for a player who
has played for the first team. Jon Maruk went from UAA-UAHL-Notre Dame in 3
seasons. Ben Tharp was with Minnesota last year, Chicago Steel this year
and Miami next.
