PC HOCKEY NAMES 2001-02 CAPTAINS

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Men’s Hockey Coach Paul Pooley
announced the naming of team captains for the 2001-02 season. Junior
forward Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.), and seniors Peter Fregoe (Massena,
N.Y.), Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) and Marc Suderman (Regina, Sask.)
will assume the team’s leadership positions for this coming season.

Rask, a 2000-01 Second Team All-American, First Team All-HOCKEY EAST and
All-New England selection, was named the team captain. He led the squad in
goals (23), assists (28) and points (51). Rask finished second in scoring
in HOCKEY EAST and was named the PC team MVP and Providence College’s
Co-Male Athlete of the Year.

The three seniors, Fregoe, Omicioli and Suderman, were all named assistant
captains. Fregoe finished second on the Friars with 37 points (16 goals, 21
assists) and earned Honorable Mention All-HOCKEY EAST. Omicioli recorded a
career-high 27 points last season, finishing fourth on the squad. He also
ranked second in the nation with four short-handed goals. Suderman
registered a career-high 26 points (seven goals,  19 assists) and had one
of the Friars’ biggest goals of the season when he scored the game-winning
goal in the second overtime (96:26) of the third game against Boston
University in the HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinals.

The Friars first test on the ice is an exhibition game on Saturday, October
6 against Western Ontario. PC opens the regular season on Friday, October
12 when they face the University of Michigan at the Maverick Stampede in
Omaha, Neb.
