Consider hitting up Tony Soprano for a contribution. His daughter is
currently attending Columbia, and I'm sure he has his reasons for moving
some cash.

Only if I can take credit for bringing it here.  ;-{)}

Seriously - most of Columbia's main athletic facilities are already five
miles to the north of the main campus, on the area at the northern tip of
Manhattan known as "Baker Field." There's barely enough room there for the
*existing* facilities, and yet here we are adding new buildings for the
boathouse and about to renovate and expand the tennis center. So there's
no room there.

And putting it anywhere near Columbia would pretty much require buying half
of Morningside Park from the city.

Hey, that's not such a bad idea...

Anyway, yes, there is always some truth to the alumni being a major driving
force in the projects a university chooses to pursue. But if there were
wealthy, influential Columbia alumni determined to see that we started a
hockey program, we'd know about it already - they wouldn't exactly be
waiting for *us* to call *them*, if you know what I mean.
