UMaine Head Coach Rick Filighera:
Rick Filighera enters his fourth season as head coach of the Maine Black
Bears. A 1991 graduate of SUNY-Brockport, Filighera has an overall record of
60-57-6, 36-48-5 in three seasons at Maine. The Black Bears finished with a
record of 6-19-2, 3-19-2 in the ECAC, a year ago. Filighera became the first
head coach of UMaine varsity women's ice hockey on September 19, 1997. He is
assisted by Shantel Gammie, a 1994 graduate of R.I.T., who begins her fourth
season with the Black Bears. New to the coaching staff this year is Arnie
Caplan, a 1993 graduate of Acadia University, who will work extensively with
the UMaine goaltenders.

Scouting Providence and Head Coach Bob Deraney:
Providence is 7-2-1 on season, 3-2-1 in conference play. The Friars are
coached by Bob Deraney (Boston University '87) who is in his second season
at Providence. In his first season with the Friars he posted a mark of
20-10-3. He is assisted by Bob Bellemore (Providence College '66) and Marnie
Hill (New Mexico '97). The Friars are led by Jessica Tabb who has seven
goals and 14 assists for 21 points on the season. Gayle Shalloo (Scottsdale,
Ariz./Pomfret School), Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), and
Darlene Stephenson (Yirden, Manitoba/Yirden Collegiate) have all registered
nine points on the campaign. Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, Louisiana/Deerfield
Aca.) has seen action in four games in net for the Friars and is 3-1-0 with
a .969 save percentage and a 0.75 goals against average. Providence has
scored 39 goals on the season while allowing just 17.

Scouting Northeastern  and Head Coach Joy Woog:
Northeastern is 6-2-0, 3-1-0 in conference play. The team is coached by Joy
Woog (Brown '95) who is in her first season at Northeastern. She is assisted
by Rick Garvey. The Huskies are led by Brooke Whitney (Snohomish,
Washington/Sno Kings) who has five goals and three assists for eight points
on the season. Lisa Giovanelli (West Haven, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears),
Kathleen Savino (North Bellmore, N.Y./Boston College), and  Kim Vallone
(Georgetown, Mass./Cushing Academy) are tied for second on the team in
scoring, each having registered seven points on the season. Erika Silva
(Middletown, R.I./Providence Country Day) has seen action in seven games in
net for the Huskies, and is 6-1-0 with a .962 save percentage and a 1.11
goals against average. Northeastern has a allowed just four power play goals
in 57 opportunities.

Wolf First Black Bear to Notch 50 Career Goals:
Raffi Wolf (Voerde, Germany/Gesamtschule am Lauerhaas) scoredher 50th career
goal on Saturday versus Mercyhurst, becoming the first Black Bear player to
reach this plateau. She currently has 50 goals and 24 assists for 74 points,
leaving her one point shy of the all-time record for career points. Alison
Lorenz (UMaine '00) hold the all-time scoring record at Maine with 75 points

Last Weekend:
The Black Bears split a non-conference weekend series with Mercyhurst last
weekend. The Black Bears dropped the first game 3-0 before rebounding to
pick up a victory on Saturday 4-1. Maine was shutout for the second time
this season on Friday night. Amanda Cronin (York, Maine/New Hampton Prep)
made 29 saves on 32 shots for the Black Bears, including 17 saves on 17
shots in the first period. On Saturday, Maine scored four third period goals
to earn the victory. Cindy Biron  (Lewiston, Maine/New Hampton Prep) led the
way for the Black Bears as she tallied a goal and added two assists. Karen
Droog (Listowel, Ontario/Peel Storm), Kelly Nelson (South Lyon, Mich./South
Lyon HS) and Wolf all registered goals for the Black Bears. Dawn Froats
(Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Notre Dame Hounds) stopped 19 of 20 Mercyhurst
shots to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Froats Moves into Third Place on All-Time Wins List:
Froats moved into third place on the all-time wins list with her fifth
career victory November 25, 2000 at Mercyhurst. She trails Cronin who is the
all-time leader in career wins with 14, and Amy Oliver ranks second with 13.

Coach Filighera Earns 60th Career Win:
Head Coach Rick Filighera earned his 60th career victory on Saturday at
Mercyhurst. He has recorded 36 victories as head coach of the Black Bears,
and won 24 games while he was head coach at Rochester Institute of
Technology from 1995-1997.

A Victory Away from Alfond Arena:
When UMaine won Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst, it was the team's first
road win since March 6, 1999 when the Black Bears beat Niagara 2-1 in
overtime. Maine did not win an NCAA road game last season, but did win a
contest versus a Canadian opponent on the road.

Spread the Wealth of Game-Winning Goals:
In UMaine's five wins this season, the team has had five different people
score game winning goals.
Black Bears Honored by the ECAC:
Jarin Sjogren (Bengough, Saskatchewan/Olympic Oval Program) was named to the
ECAC weekly honor roll last week. She tallied a goal in UMaine's win over
Cornell and scored Maine's lone goal versus St. Lawrence. Here is a list of
ECAC honors this year.
