Fairfield Announces 2000-01 Freshman Ice Hockey Class

Fairfield, Conn. – Fairfield University ice hockey coach Jim Hunt announced
the incoming freshman class for the 2000-01 season today.  Two goaltenders,
seven defensemen and three forwards will join the Stags next season. Fairfield
posted a 3-28-3 overall record and a 3-22-2 mark in the MAAC last season.

Goaltenders
Bill Whitfield (Stoughton, Mass.)
New Hampton School
5-10, 160 lbs.
Played in 33 games with 20 wins… posted a 2.90 goals against average and a
.900 save percentage.

Craig Schnappinger (Bethesda, Md.)
The Hill School
5-7, 160 lbs.
Went 9-7-1 in 17 games between the pipes… Played 692 minutes and recorded a
3.12 goals against average.

Defensemen
Peter Hams (Cambridge, Mass.)
Bridgewater Bandits (EJHL)
5-10, 185 lbs.
Captain of the Bandits last season… Played all 40 games… posted three goals
and 15 assists… Recorded 42 penalty minutes.

Aaron Cardinal (Red Lake Falls, Minn.)
Billings Bulls (AWHL)
5-10, 175 lbs.
Played in 57 games… Tallied four goals and 17 assists… Registered 49 penalty
minutes.

Nate Bauers (Oakton, Va.)
Washington Jr. Capitals (Metro Jr. League)
6-2, 195 lbs.
Played in 27 games… Posted two goals and seven assists… Logged 44 penalty
minutes.

Michael Surprenant (Simsbury, Conn.)
Connecticut Jr. Clippers (Metro Jr. League)
6-1, 195 lbs.
Ranked third in the league in defenseman scoring… netted 14 goals and added 16
assists… Had 51 penalty minutes.

Jonathan Wyson (Winthrop, Mass.)
Belmont Hill
6-2, 205 lbs.
Tallied 10-12-22 in 30 games last season… Earned three varsity letters… Also
played for the Eastern Mass. Senators midget team that won nationals… Posted
5-5-10 in 20 games.

Joseph Fontanetta (Shelton, Conn.)
The Gunnery School
5-11, 185 lbs.
Played in 90 career games… Posted 12 goals and 55 assists… Won E. Laurence
White Hockey Award… Captain of hockey, football and lacrosse teams.

Brian Casey (Albany, N.Y. )
Albany Academy
6-3, 205 lbs.
Tallied five goals and seven assists in 29 games last season… posted 8-24-32
in 85 career games.

Forwards
Hunter Greeley (Falmouth, Mass.)
Northfield Mount Hermon
6-1, 190 lbs.
Helped Falmouth High School win the Massachusetts Division I State
Championship in 1996 and the Old Colony League Championship in 1996, 1997 and
1999… Three-time Old Colony League All-Star and a four-time All Cape and
Islands All-Star.

Tom Palladino (Saugus, Mass.)
Winchendon School
6-1, 175 lbs.
Tallied 10-15-25 in 32 games at the Winchendon School last season… spent two
seasons at St. John’s Prep… Tallied 62 career points at Saugus High and helped
team to Division II State Championship.

Nick Stead (Stoneham, Mass.)
Bridgewater Bandits (EJHL)
5-8, 180 lbs.
Played in 34 games… Tallied 11 goals and 14 assists… Registered two power-play
goals and four penalty minutes.
