Bill or others -
 
Does anyone know if the rules on player participation in D-II are
different than the rules in D-I?    Perhaps, since Wayne State is
officially D-II this year (but ineligible for the D-II tourney since they
are upgrading to D-I in hockey), they didn't have to forfeit?
(Apparently, earlier in the year Wayne State thought they might be D-I,
but tourney-ineligible, and the NCAA later clarified [cite: John Wheelan
(sp?)] that Wayne State was not D-I.)
 
I know that older players (e.g., guys who had played organized hockey
after some Magic Age (18? 19? 20?))  lose a year of D-I eligibility for
each year they played after the Magic Age.  But I had heard that those
players don't lose any years of D-II eligibility for years played after
the Magic Age.
 
(At least, that was the rule as recently as a couple of years ago.)
 
Perhaps major-junior players are also D-II eligible?
 
Could this be a situation where Wayne State didn't have to forfeit due to
following D-II rules rather than D-I rules???
