As I understand it, there really weren't any other attractive
options.  Saturday's Colgate vs. Dartmouth game is, I believe, one of
the games being televised this season, so they couldn't easily move
it to Sunday, and they still wanted to separate Dartmouth's two games
by at least an extra day to remove any potential Cornell & Colgate
advantage.
 
I know many out-of-towners who would have traveled to Cornell for the
Dartmouth/Vermont weekend but had already decided not to make the
trip just for Dartmouth on Friday, so the impact is probably much
greater on students and locals who are inconvenienced by Monday night
plans.
