It seems like the move to half shields from full shields would at the very
least cause an increase in lost teeth in collegiate players.
 
Anecdotally, the existence of at most a handful of shields in the NHL
correlates with a lot of lost teeth (in fact, it's like the overarching
joke about hockey players, isn't it?).  So, here's all these NHL players
with no vision obstruction problem of a (full or half) shield, and they
still lose a bunch of teeth.
 
Incidentally, we all subsidize their dental care through our insurance
payments.
