Transplanted from Boston two years ago, I discovered both WNVT and the Naval
Academy's hockey teams.

Navy plays in a terrific on campus arena called Dalghren Hall. Originally
used for military drills and marching practice, it features a rink
surrounding railing for fans. You actually view the game from about 12 feet
above the rink and easily see things develop very nicely. On the ends you
can sit in these incredibly comfortable wing chairs while watching the
games. BTW, they're free.

The hockey's not Division I level, yet the Academy kids do not quit even
down a couple of goals in the last minute. Annapolis remains beautiful any
time of year, too.

Towson State University up the road in Baltimore also fields a pretty
competitive club team. Two former Washington Capitals act as Assistants to
the Head Coach, a former Vermont player.

WVNT's wonderful. A PBS station which purchases the feed to college hockey
in efforts to fund raise during stoppages in play. They showed all NC$$
playoff games for free when other markets couldn't even get it on PPV.

Finally, the Penalty Box in Old Town Alexandria remains a great hockey bar.
Owned by former Caps player Brian Watson, it remains one of the few sports
bars that will pre-empt football and basketball for any hockey game - even
Mini-One-on-One.

I don't get the same live Friday night hockey I got in Boston, yet trips to
Annapolis as well as cheap flights up north for the Beanpot make it much
more palatable down here.

David Poulin returned to coach his alma mater, Notre Dame, after a strong
NHL career including a captaincy of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Finally, a really nice organization to support remains the Fort Dupont
Flyers - a collection of inner city high school aged hockey players who now
discover the game we all love so much.

Hope this helps. See you all in Anaheim.

'til then. Carpe Diem.

Make it a great day.

Hey, if I ran a PBS station in *Texas*, I'd carry the ECACs.
:-)
