Dick, I agree with you on many of your points about the computers. All the
computer point systems I have seen seem to be flawed in one direction or
the other and should NOT be used to decide who makes the tourney and who
does not.
Here's the disagreement. The other day I argued that Mankato St. is moving
up and deserves the "established D-1 program" label more than the MAAC
schools. Now you make some points arguing that QC and UCONN are in the
same class as Mankato. I disagree, but for the sake of this argument let's
say I do agree with you. This means, for QC to be considered a legitimate
tournament qualifier, Mankato State is also a legitimate tournament
qualifier. Now, unless MSU beats UND tonight, and then wins the whole WCHA
tournament next weekend (which would take beating Minnesota/SCSU, then CC,
then either Denver, Minnesota, or Wisconsin in 3 straight days), no one on
this list is even close to arguing the Mavericks deserve a tournament
berth. QC may be a great hockey team this year, but we will never know
because they didn't play the established schools. IF they schedule these
teams in the future AND beat some of them, then and only then will the MAAC
teams receive the recognition they may, or may not, deserve now.
