RPI coach Dan Fridgen resumed his goalie rotation this
weekend after Joel Laing's run at the ECAC shutout record
fell 73 seconds short last weekend at Union. Scott Prekaski
got the start on Friday night and Joel Laing was back between
the pipes on Saturday. Laing, who was shelled by UNH just
before Christmas, has won his last 7 games, 4 by shutout
and has given up just 3 goals in those 7 games.

The Engineers played a steady game against a Western Michigan
team that plays a blue collar style of hockey (lots of elbows,
cross checking and high hits). Once again, their defense played
a solid 3 periods of hockey as RPI extends their winning streak
to 9 games.

The stretch run for the playoffs begins next weekend, as RPI
has nothing but ECAC games from here until March. Next weekend
will be a key weekend in the ECAC race as St. Lawrence comes to
town on Friday. Originally, it was thought that this would be a
battle of two teams tied for first place, but RPI retains a 2 point
lead over St. Lawrence as they were beaten Saturday night by arch
rival Clarkson. Then, Saturday night, the Clarkson Golden Knights
come to town in what is usually one of the more rowdy nights of the
year at the Field House.
