I just noticed that according to ECAC HockeyNet
<http://hockey.ecac.com/playoffs/m1> the ECAC Men's Division I
tiebreakers are now:

1. Comparison of game results between tied teams
2. Comparison of results of games against the top five teams
3. Comparison of results of games against the top ten teams
4. Goal differential in head-to-head competition
5. Goal differential in games against the top five teams
6. Goal differential in games against the top ten teams

This means that the old "top four" and "top eight" tiebreakers have
been changed to "top five" and "top ten", presumably due to the
expansion of the Lake Placid portion of the playoffs from four to five
teams. The old system did have the advantage of dividing the league
into thirds. The new system draws the lines at home ice and playoff
qualification. (Of course, if we went back to an eight-team
playoff...)
