The Tigers let their chances for regaining first place in the WCHA slip
farther away, as they lose to North Dakota 5-1 tonight and put themselves
5 points behind.
 
It was a fairly quiet game, compared to last night. Only 3 penalties the
whole game, all of them called in the first period, and most of the goals
in the third. CC just didn't seem to have it together tonight, getting
outshot in the first period 14-6. The Sioux were everywhere, blocking
shots, intercepting passes, and peppering Tiger netminder Jeff Sanger with
shots. North Dakota had a 2-goal lead after the first period. Not much
happened in the second, with no goals or penalties. The Sioux doubled
their lead early in the third, getting 2 goals in 28 seconds to make it
4-0. Colin Zulianello replaced Sanger in net for the rest of the game. He
hadn't played since Dec. 11, against Mankato State. North Dakota made it
5-0 5 minutes later, and the Tigers looked like they might be on their way
to being shut out a second weekend in a row. Aaron Karpan finally got CC
on the board a minute and a half later, but that was all the Tigers would
get past Sioux goalie Andy Kollar.
 
As an interesting note, both Brian Swanson and Jason Blake were shut out
for points this weekend.
 
The Tigers host Michigan Tech next weekend before getting a break.
Hopefully they can start picking it up and snap this 3 game losing streak.
