Isn't that the truth.  In the media capital of the world, coverage of local
college sports is a joke except perhaps for basketball.  If it weren't for the
college radio stations, you wouldn't even know that college hockey exists
anywhere in the Tri-State area.
 
In various hockey newsgroups there have been arguments recently of why European
players make up a larger percentage of NHL players than their population
representation.  From both sides of the Atlantic is was agreed that the
individualistic system of Canada and the US isn't as efficient as the European
state sponsorship system.
 
Yet, I have this nagging feeling that if college hockey had the kind of
exposure of say women's basketball, that colleges and universities would see a
greater reason to put more emphasis into their programs and seek better deals
with local/national TV outlets.  Hockey may never equal football in the NCAA
revenue department, but greater exposure would help the college programs and
players immensely.
