The Ivies and other non-scholarship offering programs do offer some really
nice financial aid packages, and those deals are getting better. The
desire for a top class team is just as strong at many of those schools.
Plus you end up with a status degree.

While Bill Cleary was an incredible coach, and I miss his Harvard teams to
no end, I could not characterize that Harvard attitude as being overly
pro-women's sports. Whatever looks good, they do, just don't look too
close at the details. Last October's budget report still shows the
women's teams far behind the men's in support. The women's teams are
growing, but the men's budget also grow pretty fast too.

While a JV Women's team at Harvard would be a good idea, based on recent
history, with players dropping out of the program every year, the Harvard
Women need all the players they can get just to fill out the roster. The
whine has been that they don't have enough players to put more than two
lines on the ice, while some capable players never leave the bench. No
matter how you slice it, unless Harvard is gaining a dozen players or
more, or has a pool that hasn't made the varsity team, I find that one
hard to believe.
