* Wisconsin sophomore Steve Reinprecht and rookie netminder Graham
Melanson both earned Player of the Week Honors for their play last
weekend in the UW's sweep at CC.

Center Steve Reinprecht, who scored his first collegiate hat trick and
added one assist for a four-point series last weekend, has been selected
the WCHA's Offensive Player of the Week for January 26. Reinprecht's
offensive production of nine goals, 6 assists and 15 points over the
last eight games has moved him into the conference scoring lead. He has
11-11-22 in 16 league games and also tops the WCHA overall with 16-14-30
in 24 games. He has four multiple-goal games in his last seven outings.

Freshman goaltender Graham Melanson has been chosen the WCHA Rookie of
the Week for Jan. 26, as a result of his outstanding efforts in last
Saturday's 4-0 shutout of the Tigers.

* Bemidji State will start a women's varsity hockey program in the
1999-2000 season, university officials announced Tuesday in Bemidji,
Minn.

* A cold and allergy medicine might get NHL players into trouble at the
Olympics, according to Sports Illustrated. Two NHL trainers estimate
that 20 percent of the league's players use Sudafed, an over-the-counter
antihistamine. The medicine contains pseudoephedrine, a stimulant
banned by the IOC.

* A press conference and rally to protest UND's use of the name
Fighting Sioux was organized by a St. Cloud State University group
called First People before SCSU and UND faced off last Friday night

* Friday night's game was the fifth time St. Cloud has faced an
opponent's backup goaltender

* If UND and SCSU tie in for the WCHA title, the Huskies would earn the
No 1 seed in the playoffs because of its 14-13 edge over the Sioux in
total goals in the four head-to-head matchups.
