Mankato was asked to be the 10th

That "someone" is the first seeded team, I
believe. Whoever gets the first seed has the
option of playing the last(ninth) place WCHA team
-or- Mankato State. If they choose the last place
WCHA team, then the 2nd place seed gets the choice
of the eight place WCHA team -or- Mankato State
... and so on...until someone chooses to play
Mankato.
