I would assume geography has alot to do with it. The new DI conference
has mostly Eastern teams as far as I know. The closest to Mankato, if
I'm not mistaken, would be Canisius (in western NY) which is a LONG way
away. It would be like Minnesota playing in the ECAC. Simply not very
feasible.
Conference USA in DI basketball is not exactly a weak conference
with basketball powers like Cincinnati, Marquette, and several others.
It's not like a bunch of schools just joining competitive DI (like say
Wofford). This is not similar to the situation here.
