The first probably has an effect; the last is utterly irrelevant.  Both
college and pro basketball have used foreign players for years, and have
been very popular.

Why is it "inexcusable" that some schools have club teams?  Hockey is
a monetary sinkhole at many places; somebody's got to pay the bills.
 
I'm sure many of those (or other) schools would gladly accept contributions
if you offered some.  After all, if you can afford AOL...  :)
