My guess is that some people believed that if the home teams all made it to
the Fleet, then either PC (vs. UNH) or Merrimack (vs. BU) were considered
to have chances of upsetting the higher seeds and possibly winning the
tourney, thereby getting an automatic bid.  That would force out a team
that was contending for an at-large bid.
 
That's just my guess; I sure wouldn't bet too much against BC and Lowell's
chances this weekend either, though most would consider them greater
underdogs than PC or Merrimack would have been.  Lowell has shown an
ability to play well against BU, and BC seems to be putting it together at
the right time.

That's the key...as some have mentioned, Vermont seems to rank high enough
that they will get an at-large bid anyway.  Even if there are upsets, it
doesn't look like it will be enough to keep them out.
