An interesting side-note from today's (03/06/97) Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

FYI: Thousands check out online Hockey Hall

Rachel Blount / Star Tribune

Not many people pull off the highway at Eveleth to visit the U.S. Hockey
Hall of Fame. Officials of the struggling museum hoped a new Internet site,
which was unveiled Monday, would help more people discover the Hall's
treasures -- but even those officials were surprised at how many virtual
visitors stopped by.

The Hall's web site was accessed 13,579 times Monday, and the number of
users who took the "virtual tour" of the museum was nearly 14 percent of
the total number of in-person visitors to the Hall in 1996. The site
(www.ushockeyhall.org) includes the museum tour, statistics and facts about
current and former players, links to other hockey sites, membership
information and a merchandise catalog.

"A year ago, we made the decision to exist on the Internet for hundreds of
thousands of people, and that made it unimportant where we are," said Hall
spokesman Rob Brown.
