The actual score makes it look like an easier game than it was. This game
was up and down until the third period when the blue put it away. They
dominated the whole first period, even though the shots on goal were only 9
to 6. They scored 20 seconds into the game on a great dig out by Madden and
Luhning behind the net and then a sweet backhand by Luhning out front. Game
was 1-0 until 8:14 when Madden scored after a long long battle along the
boards for the puck - UM is finally winning these "scrums" and after years of
watching hockey, I realize how important this part of the game is. It's
amazing how many goals are scored after a dig-out (my term). Luhning
finished the scoring at 18:19 of the first.
Everyone was joking and laughing about the blowout and how we were going to
beat them 10-0. LSSU came out and dominated the whole second period,
outscoring us 2-1. Herr scored with 1:10 left in the second to change the
score from 3-2 to 4-2 and I think that goal broke the back of the LSSU team.
UM scored three goals in a minute and half span Morrison at 6:52, Luhning HAT
TRICK at 7:39, and Madden at 8:13. Richlin added the final goal with 2:35 to
go in the game. It was nice to see UM scoring in the last minutes of each
period.
Shots on goal 34 for UM and 15 for LSSU
Luhning ends up with 3 goals and an assist, Hilton had 4 assists, Madden had
2 goals and an assist and they were the three top players. By the way, they
all play on the same line.
On to WMU and let's win there. WMU lost to MSU last night 3-0. MSU has sole
possesion of first place. Miami also beat BGSU, a surprise.
