There has been a slight change in the format of the ECAC quarterfinal round.
Starting this season, the first two games will go to a single five-minute
sudden-death overtime if tied at the end of regulation. Previously, a tie
at the end of regulation was recorded as a tie immediately, with no overtime.

If the teams remain tied after five minutes, the game will be recorded as a
tie. Thus, the ECAC still has the situation that a team can win its quar-
terfinal series by winning one game and tying the other.

The third game, if necessary, would still be played "to conclusion," with
as many (20-minute) overtime periods as necessary.

I would prefer ALL quarterfinal games to be played "to conclusion," but by
including the five-minute OT, the ECAC at least has made the first two
quarterfinal games follow the regular-season format, instead of being these
oddball games with no OTs.
